Methodist Girls School Mary was born April 25, 1925 in Warri, Nigeria Chief Mukoro and his first wife, Nanovbe. The eldest daughter and third of fifteen children, grew up in a polygamous family, which was also the richest and most prominent home in Warri. His father, head was a successful businessman and pillar of Urhobo community, active in local politics and respected by Nigerians and British alike.
Mary left Nigeria in 1948 to fill a training post in the General Hospital in Sunderland, England. There he met Lakeru Akinwande, a medical student working during the summer. The couple stayed in touch after Akinwande returned to the University of St Andrews, Scotland, and visited each other whenever they could. Mary Akinwande courted for three years and married April 4, 1953. During the next fifty-eight years rarely apart.
Mabel Marsh, a pioneer educator, was appointed to the position of school principal. She is fond regarded as the founder of the Methodist Girls’ School “in Kuala Lumpur since she was the longest-before the war and the director for their tireless dedication and searches. The school’s enrollment began to increase, which stood at 250. On the night of November 14.1914.
