Workers party Incumbent David Prosser Jr., a former Republican legislator, trailed challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg by about 200 votes until late Thursday when Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus announced that some 14,000 votes had not been counted. That gave Prosser a 7,500 lead.The Workers’ Party believes that it is not in the national interest for Parliament to continue to be so overwhelmingly dominated by the PAP. There is a real danger that Parliament will appear to be a rubber stamp for the government agenda.

At this point in time we can’t. Let’s be realistic. I’m the only elected member of parliament from the Workers’ Party in parliament and we have one NCMP. And this election we probably will field 20 over candidates. And that is my worry, that if you continue like that without experienced politicians and parliamentarians and without a mechanism which we can spring out to form an alternative government, when the Government fails, I think we’d be in troSen. No government is perfect, or infallible, or lasts forever. The ruling party must be subject to scrutiny and challenge and competition to keep it on its toes. It is also critical that Singaporeans are not stuck with just one party able to govern, and no fall-back plan. Alternative governments do not spring up overnight to take over when a government fails.
